The terror you feel when you sit in the silt of a riverbed and align yourself as a flash in the pan. The moment is dazzling, overwhelming, and what Michael Slyne would sing in a whisper, “These things are beautiful…you are these things.”

In six musical movements, he takes a leap of faith to share with the listener the shimmering light he holds dear. From years gone by as an uncompromising artist, he has demonstrated a masterful sense of his own craft with guitars, pianos, upright/electric bass, and tapes to sonically web a tender mood and attitude toward his own vision of beauty. A beauty in “the river bend, crickets howling, getting in line with the pickets, a cop car on fire, and a burning bank.”

Finger-picked phrases, squalling guitar drone, and his hushed yet assertive lyrical delivery, give way to Slyne’s shared journey as one of a peaceful exploration of how all beautiful things inherently decompose and yet, in the blur and deafening fury of the modern world, he “will be / all over the wind / And floating with the river bend / In the light reflecting off / The particles of dust you breathe / In the spark that lights a match / To the world.” - Daniel Boroughs
